Facebook has the highest penetration among the top social media entities. It has more US profiles than the next three largest sites combined. From a marketing perspective, note that this data only represents profiles. It doesn’t take into account others who may view the content via sharing. Further, this data is measured across a broad user base of Americans over the age of 12.
While Facebook usage is high, a recent Marketing Benchmark Report found that for Business to Business marketing, Twitter topped Facebook and Linkedin for leads. See more information on this in an earlier AFPI blog: https://www.afpi.com/Twitter_Leads
Here are some tips for using this Information:
- As you do your yearly update on your customer profile, focus on how your target audience uses social media.
- Focus your social media efforts on those platforms where your target audience spends their time. If you’re targeting teens and/or twenties, then include Tumblr in your mix.
- Be sure to place the right amount of content on these platforms for a comfortable rate of engagement. If you overwhelm your audience with too much information they’ll stop following you.
